Today is the day

Everything went well this morning. Maria was very brave as she answered lots of questions and met the surgical team. She asked lots of good questions, too. They took her in to the operating room at 8:00. They have to get her hooked up and then start the procedure at 9:00. Cathy had Maria's hair and nails done yesterday so she looked very pretty going in. We are proud of Maria and look forward to seeing her this evening.

Procedure Tomorrow

I have to be at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester at 6:15 tomorrow morning to be admitted. They will kick mom and dad out of the room at 7:45 to take me into surgery. They will spend an hour getting me ready for the procedure. They will start at 9:00 and finish the procedure at about 5:00. I will spend the first day in ICU. And then move into my own room on Thursday.

Ahead of schedule. Bloodwork and photographs are done. Getting xrays now. Meet with doctor after that.

August 31, 2009

I left this afternoon at about 12:30 and after a 4 hour car ride we arrived in Rochester, MN. We are staying at the 2nd street inn and suites. We ate dinner a few hours ago at Hunan Garden. (It's a Chinese restaurant.) I have been having a pretty pleasant time so far. Tomorrow I have some lab work and the following day is my procedure. Wish me luck, I'll keep you posted.

Maria will be leaving for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN on Monday, August 31 at noon to have surgery on her back to correct her Scoliosis. She will have lab work done on Tuesday, September 1. She will have her procedure on Wednesday, September 2 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. She will spend a few days in the hospital to recover and then come home (hopefully) on September 9. She will need to spend about 30 days at home to continue recovery. She may be able to start attending East after that (about October 9--just 4 days after her 16th birthday). Full recovery is expected to take about 9 months which would be approximately June 2, 2010. We will use this blog to to provide you with updates.
